Did you know Limehouse is home to a publishers, a stones throw from St Katharine’s Precinct? No, well you do now!

Limehouse Books was set up in 2009 by publisher and managing director Bobby Nayyar. The company aimed to publish quality fiction and non fiction books.

We first meet Bobby in 2015 when we opened the Precinct and invited the community to co-create new community projects with us. Bobby was first though the doors and over a cup of coffee Yurt Salon was born.

Yurt Salon is a monthly literary night exploring different themes from South Asian poetry, spoken word to live music.

Bobby said of Yurt Salon; ‘having lived in Limehouse for over seven years, I was so excited to see the creation of the Precinct, even more so when they reached out to the community to create new partnerships and projects. As a publisher was keen to ground my company in the local area and build new connections through events. We did our first Yurt Salon in February 2016 and are working together to hold seven more diverse events, which will feature local writers and artists’.

On Friday 17th March  Yurt Salon will be curating The People in the Room. Three leading artists of illustration will live draw in collaboration with the audience. Guests are welcome to draw, watch or even model. Tickets are on sale for £3 (free for students). You might be interested in taking part in a workshop on portraiture led by artist Gail Seres Woolfson. Tickets are £6 for the workshop.

We hope to see you on the 17th March or at one of our future Yurt Salon events.
